Who can apply?

Parents/guardians of The Collegiate Trust pupils can purchase musical instruments free of VAT. The instrument you wish to purchase must be new. You may choose your own supplier.

Advice on a choice of instrument is available from your child’s teacher.

To comply with HM Custom and Excise rules, the following criteria must be satisfied:

  • The student must be in receipt of music lessons organised by The Collegiate Trust
  • The student must be a full-time student
  • The instrument must be appropriate to the student’s needs and ability
  • The instrument must be portable
  • The instrument must change hands on school premises.

This scheme is non-profit making and is offered by The Collegiate Trust as a service.

How to apply?

  1. Make your choice of instrument by visiting your preferred music shop/supplier and ascertain the price of the instrument, including any carriage/handling charge, and excluding VAT. This scheme is for instruments with a net value of £100 and above.
  2. Obtain a quotation from the supplier for the chosen instrument together with any accessories and email it to accounts@tct-academies.org
  3. Complete the https://forms.office.com/e/gza189kyJM  and we will contact you for payment.
  4. Once payment has cleared, The Collegiate Trust will order the instrument.
  5. The instrument will be delivered to the school.
  6. When we have received the instrument, the school will contact you and arrange a suitable time for the instrument to be collected.
  7. On receipt of the instrument, the parent/carer and a member of The Collegiate Trust staff, will sign a transaction document. Ownership of the instrument will then be transferred to the parent.
  8. Following transfer of the instrument, all guarantee rights transfer to the parent and subsequent enquiries should be directed to the retail supplier.
